More information about artist Ben Haggeman.
Ben Haggeman was born and raised in Wichmond aan de Ijsel in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. After many years of working as a designer in the fashion industry and as a décor and costume designer in the theatre world he finally choose the freedom of an artist in the beginning of the 80’s. Influences from the fashion and theatre world where initially clearly present is his work - characters in grand costume designs paced in theatrical or scenic decors. In a later stage the scenic decors made room for ruin-like buildings.
Ben also draws his own interpretations of religious, mythical, mythological and fairy-tale design, often on a smaller scale. He plays with light through a splashing technique that brings unexpected light and colour in his drawings.
Ben’s technique is best to be described as a “painted drawing” that is created through many layers of drawings with a mixture of ink and acrylic. By applying this mixture with a generous amount of water a watercolour effect is created.
